In the Willow household it is becoming abundantly clear that trains are a part of life. A neighbor of ours knew about this passion for C and the kiddos and were able to help us get tickets to the holiday event at the Jackson Street Roundhouse. The last time we were here I was pregnant with Baby Willow. Kid Willow loved showing Baby Willow around the train tables.

It was really nice to see the decorations with the old restored train cars and engines. Santa and Mrs Claus was there, but Kid Willow decided against having a photo taken. They were more interested in watching the newer model train set up with multiple types of trains on the tracks. I’ve read Baby Willow “Freight Train” so much I knew the hopper cars from the box cars.

Afterwards, C found a tour guide to give us a tour of the shop where they restore these mammoth engines and cars. Our guide was really great and knew so much. We even had a nice reminder that these engines – even back in the early 1900’s – were set up for above 80 mph. In the middle of the tour we met a couple of the blacksmiths that demonstrated how they shaped metal by making the kiddos metal candy canes.

The tickets were a treat for the Willow family. I think it will be a while before the kiddos fully grasp the history of the engines and train cars that are in the museum.
