Liverpool, England

As a family we visited Liverpool for an overnight trip. Unfortunately the first part was a bit damp and we walked around in the rain. Thankfully we had our rain jackets. The kiddos were able to visit one of my favorite train stations in the UK. We took the commuter rail to Birkenhead and saw the skyline of Liverpool in the foggy mist. This was a good introduction for the kiddos about various levels of train travel in the UK.

Finally we visited Calderstones Park, which is one of C’s favorite Liverpool places. In fact when I first visited Liverpool, this was high on the priority list. The good expanse of open green space and tree lined paths helped you feel not in the midst of the city. It had a small playground that is definitely more suited for preschool aged kids in general.

I enjoyed the gardens in the park. Seeing as it is a maze of a garden area, the kiddos decided playing hide and seek was the must activity of the gardens. Thankfully they had burned off enough energy for the trip to Newcastle.

Although it was a quick stop over, I am glad we visited. Liverpool has a weird way of recharging my batteries and I am not sure why. It was good for the kiddos to have a gentle introduction to train travel while here so that they could handle the train journeys ahead. There is so much more to this city, but we kept it simple this time even in the rain.

Bye for now,
