Upon returning home, we chose a smaller day trip to have a picnic and see a sculpture garden called Caponi Art Park in Eagan, MN. Since I was given sole choice, I chose this place as I love sculpture gardens and their accessibility to the public. This sculpture area is a small part of a larger park in the Eagan park system. We only explored the sculpture part north of Diffley Road which was started as the brainchild of Anthony Caponi.

The park is a host to all kinds of flora and fauna but with lively younger folks with us the fauna was shy and it was early spring so the flora was just beginning to bud and leaf. I loved hearing the birds and seeing the hope of a new year in the green after the winter brown.

We really enjoyed the different sculptures by a variety of artists and the stone labyrinth. The different unpaved paths showed new discoveries as we didn’t use the sculpture maps. The grass fields were great for a small run around after our picnic lunch. Each one of us preferred a different piece. I was struck by the Pompeii relief sculpture in the side of the drive and did enjoy the different sculptures dealing with different types of relationships such as sisterhood, mother and child, etc.

I do think a return trip to the rest of park is in order as it would be interesting to see the rest of the landscapes that may have inspired the creativity of Mr. Caponi.
Bye for now.
Oh these sculptures are fab, looks like a great day out!
