Botany Bay UK

After Canterbury we visited Botany Bay. It was the opposite of being in town. As we drove up to the town, the flatness and coastal feel reminds me of driving to the sandy beaches in the coastal areas I’ve visited in the US. As you should know by now we love visiting beaches and this was a great beach to visit during low tide. Fair warning you will struggle to find parking near the beach and there are a few parking lots/car parks in nearby beach areas that are a relatively short walk away. Despite the parking situation, we enjoyed the juxtaposition from the city center earlier in the day.

When I was younger I would see pictures of chalk cliffs and actually seeing them in person was quite cool. We also saw tons of flint in the cliffs. Flint is an interesting stone and some had the translucent nature of agates here in MN. Kid willow was excited to see if he could see any fossils and the flint in the chalk as was told to us by our host.

Along the sandy beach there were wavy carved areas of chalk that looked like a Dr. Seuss drawing. The blue mussel shells were really pretty. The molten crab shells of different sizes were scattered along the sand. We enjoyed walking along the beach all the way to the “singing” sand area where the sand actually squeaked when you stepped. Off shore was a massive wind farm which was cool to see.

Trips to the beach are one of the things the willow family can agree on taking. I genuinely liked the beach. If we’re lucky enough to make a return trip, I think a packed picnic would be a great idea. I saw several families doing just that along with playing football and flying kites.

Bye for now.
