Jay Cooke State Park

After spending time recovering from the trip to the UK, we took a weekend trip to Jay Cooke State Park in northern MN. As someone that is not a fan of camping, I enjoyed my first time in this park. There are trails to explore, a really nice shower/toilets building with a washing up/dish washing sick on the outside of the building and several types of camping experiences offered.

We rented/hired a camper cabin in the park. To be clear camper cabins are buildings with beds, plug ins and lights, cooking is not allowed in the cabin nor is there a kitchen or a bathroom in these cabins. Our friends chose another camping experience. C is just as happy camping in a tent, but with black bears and raccoons, I’ll stick to camper cabins. Like the area being in the woods, there was plenty of vegetation, but the rain garden by the main wash building was really pretty even in the drought.

C, a friend and I went for a longer walk along one of the walking/biking trail to the river nearby. There were plenty of black eyed susans along the the path. I was surprised to see the sudden change in environment when we reached the river edge as it was a cliff and very rocky. On our walk back there were various types of paths from paved to rocky to grass. I even found a four leaf clover.

Because there were so many trails to explore and agates to see, I would recommend that people who love to camp stay longer and on site longer for their trip rather than using it as a base camp for our day trips in the area. This state park has plenty to see and explore in and of itself.

Bye for now.
