One of the places I have wanted to visit for several years is the Split Rock Light House north of Duluth. C and the kiddos had already visited nearby and had a great time. Split Rock Light House is one of the MN Historical Society locations so being an annual member meant we had free admission upon arrival. We also had an annual state park pass so parking was free for us on arrival as well. This is one of those locations that is run by both the historical society and the state park system.

We did a quick tour of the light house keeper’s quarters and Kid Willow had a quick chat with the gentleman guide. It had many of the features I would expect in a house of this time. As you tour Midwestern historical homes (that are not of the manner house size) you begin to see similarities in architecture and belongings. As someone that is fascinated by such things, I am glad to have had a walk through the house.

Later we walked our way along the trail to the coast line and had a picnic with our group. There were people canoeing and playing in the water. Many people were enjoying the rocky beach line. At one point people swam from a small peninsula to the island close by. C and the kiddos took part in this along with the other tourists. We spent quite some time in this state park. I would definitely go again during off peak times with my simple camera and an admiration for the terrain.

Bye for now.
